Transported Semen Information

The success of the transported semen program depends entirely on efficient mutual cooperation in breeding your mare.  At Arroyo Arabians, we have one of the finer breeding facilities in the country.  We have been successfully using transported semen since its beginning, working closely with Alamo Pintado Equine Medical Center to achieve a conception rate in the high 90%.  The procedure is relatively simple, but must be done absolutely correctly. 

The mare owner will need to have the mare palpated, preferably with an ultra sound, by a veterinarian with experience in the reproductive area to determine the size and consistency of the mares’ follicle, thus the approximate time of each mares ovulation.  This is of absolute importance to the success of the project.   We must be notified by 9:00am (Pacific Standard Time) the day prior to the expected ovulation for you to receive the semen the morning of the following day.  This gives us the needed time to have our veterinarian collect the stallion and get the shipment to Federal Express on time.  Obviously the more communication between the mare owner and Arroyo Arabians, the less complicated the process will be.  (Please remember, Federal Express is closed on Sunday, which directly affects Saturday and Sunday shipments.)  Upon receiving the semen shipment, your veterinarian then inseminates the mare as he or she would if the stallion were present on the property. 

The transported semen program enables the mare owner to maintain the mare safely on their own farm, thus eliminating transportation costs and dangers, and board charges.  Perhaps most importantly, it opens up the stallion choices for the breeder. 

Transported Semen Fees

• $200 per shipment.
• $250 refundable deposit on Equitainer shipping container.

Equitainer must be returned to Arroyo Arabians (in Arroyo Arabians possession) within five days of receipt of shipment.  A late fee of $ 15 per day will be charged to the mare owner for each day past due on the Equitainer.  We have a limited supply of Equitainers available and must pay a rental fee on additional containers if ours are not returned promptly.

Transported semen fees to be paid in full prior to shipment of semen. Equitainer deposit may be held on a MasterCard or Visa
